Seeking to put love and faith into action, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County brings people together to build homes, community and hope.
Habitat OC was founded in 1988 and has built in 15 cities in Orange County. Since its creation, Habitat OC has built 208 homes, repaired 77 veteran and civilian homes, and thus served more than 3,000 men, women, and children throughout Orange County.
So what will our community look like when we have fulfilled our mission?
Habitat OC selects families based on three criteria:
Each adult applicant purchasing a Habitat OC home agrees to invest 250 hours of sweat equity. “Sweat equity” means a Habitat OC homeowner invests time and labor, not just money, into building their community. Usually, this means helping to build homes in the family’s new neighborhood. It may also include working in other areas of Habitat OC like the office or a Habitat OC ReStore.
Habitat OC ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell quality new and gently-used home furniture, appliances, and building materials to the public at discounted prices.
Volunteers like you give our stores a unique and friendly environment that keeps shoppers and donors coming back. As a Habitat OC ReStore volunteer, you might help unload donations, stock the shelves, and assist shoppers in the store. Whether you wish to learn new skills or just help out, your volunteer hours keep out costs low so more dollars go towards Habitat OC’s affordable homeownership mission.
Proceeds from the Habitat OC ReStores in Anaheim and Santa Ana help fund the construction of affordable Habitat OC homes. When you shop, donate, or volunteer, YOU are helping hardworking limited-income families in Orange County build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
