By now, you likely have heard about the incredible gift of $436 million donated to Habitat for Humanity International by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. This is a big win for the advancement of affordable homeownership at large.
While Habitat for Humanity of Orange County was not among the 84 selected affiliates, we enthusiastically celebrate this gift as it helps further Habitat’s mission of building homes, community, and hope.
Habitat’s U.S. network comprises 1,100 affiliates and the 93% that were not selected are searching for ways to increase capacity, especially with spiking inflation.
Over the next two years, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County plans to continue to build affordable homes for hardworking families in Orange County. We also plan to expand our Home Repair program to improve neighborhoods by providing homeowners with much-needed home repairs, focusing on health, safety and accessibility.
We are grateful for donors like Ms. Scott who donate to our parent organization and thereby make an impact internationally. We are equally grateful for the many community members who donate to our own local affiliate organization and make a substantial impact right here in Orange County (like those who gave during our recent Building Dreams Drive).
Affordable housing remains out of reach for far too many families. Together, we can forge forward to continue to solve the housing crisis in Orange County.
Your support, as always, remains appreciated and is needed more than ever.
Kind Regards,
Sharon Ellis
