The Building Dreams Fundraising Breakfast brings together passionate individuals willing to learn more about Habitat for Humanity of Orange County’s mission, vision, and many programs while raising funds to help combat Orange County’s affordable housing crisis.
Come to hear first-hand from our families about their heartwarming experiences as Habitat OC homeowners and the impact it has made in their lives.
For many years, Luis and his mother, Carla, shared a bedroom in a tiny apartment. Luis wished for his own room—someplace where he could read or study. Carla began saving to buy a home, but soon realized she couldn’t afford a home in Orange County. On December 16, 2006, Carla and Luis moved into their Habitat OC home. “It was a dream comes true,” Luis said. He finally had his own bedroom, and it was even decorated with cowboys and horses. “That first night, I felt secure and peaceful, and at home.” After a few weeks, Luis started thinking about other people. “I wanted other kids to have a house like mine.” He decided to raise money for Habitat OC, and done so every year in any way he can. It started by selling his toys in his front yard as a young boy and now as a young adult hosts fundraisers for those “other kids to have a house like his.”
