Habitat builds 500,000th home worldwide
Celebrating 35 years of building homes and building hope.
Looking back on 35 years there is so much to celebrate. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity reached an important milestone 24 years later - dedicating the 100,000th house in New York City.
The next 100,000 houses were completed in only five years. Habitat dedicated its 200,000th in 2005 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Thanks to the growing and continued global support, the rate of building continues to increase.
Three years was all it took to help another 100,000 families, dedicating the 300,000th house in Naples, Florida. Only two years later in 2010, the 400,000th and just one year later in 2011 an important milestone of 500,000 homes built world-wide.
October 3, 2011: Habitat's 500,000th home is dedicated in Maai Mahiu, Kenya, and the 500,001st home started framing in Paterson, New Jersey.
500,000 + 1 and Counting
Habitat houses span six continents in nearly 80 countries with an impact here and around the globe. With continued and growing support, Habitat has set its sights on another 500,000 homes to reach
"The first Million".
