Change the world at any age. Find out how young people can make dreams come true for Orange County families.
Everyone is necessary
Youthful enthusiasm and energy are invaluable to the Habitat OC mission. Orange County's vitality depends on today's youth taking major roles in building a healthy community.
Homes built today help break the poverty cycle for Orange County's families and their children's families. The result is better educated, more engaged, productive youngsters and adults.
Yes, there is an age limit for volunteering on active build sites (16+). But there are so many other ways for young people to participate!
Students can establish a Habitat for Humanity campus chapter or join one that already exists. The chapters are always looking for strong leaders as previous leaders graduate.
Campus chapters can be formed on high school or college campuses and serve these functions:
If you are ready to be an outstanding role model to other young people, this is the place for you. If you're dedicated to community service, look no further. You've found a home and a purpose. Learn more about Habitat's campus chapters.
Here are some more ideas...
Join the Lunch Bunch - Provide nourishment for hardworking Habitat OC construction volunteers.*
Inspire Others - Create individual notes of encouragement to be given to volunteers or family members who are working on a build site.
Recycle Cans - Hold can recycling drives and donate the proceeds to Habitat OC. Read more about Cans for Habitat.
Make Gifts - Put together a welcome basket for each family in a Habitat OC development. You could build bird houses or make welcome home banners.
Check here for a great list of "Age Appropriate Activities for Youth."
*FYI - Habitat OC has a policy that everything is shared equally. If you'd like to bring food for volunteers, plan on enough for everyone. If you'd like to make gifts for families, plan on providing identical gifts for each family of the Habitat OC development you've adopted. Be sure to prearrange your plans carefully with the volunteer services department!
