The McQuigg family
Paul McQuigg is a single, divorced father of five year-old son Sebastian. He is a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) currently stationed at Camp Pendleton. Paul was seriously wounded on February 27, 2006, when the HMMWV in which he was riding was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED). His injuries have compromised his ability to eat solid food and to speak clearly. For a while, he could only receive liquid food and medication through a trans abdominal feeding tube. To date, Paul has undergone 16 surgeries (three of them in an emergency) with the most recent in July 2007. He has been told by doctors that he needs to have approximately four more surgeries to be able to fully speak and eat solid food.
Paul's mother Jacqueline has moved in with Paul and son Sebastian in Oceanside as the primary caregiver. An affordable home would allow Paul to be able to live independently in the future. A home would also provide stability for Sebastian and enable Paul to live in close proximity to naval hospitals in Oceanside and San Diego where he receives ongoing medical treatment. "I have not heard of any other company offering this type of opportunity to wounded warriors and their families," said Paul. "I am sincerely interested in taking advantage of an opportunity that will enable me to realize my goal of obtaining my own home."
